KPL in the News

I don't agree with the statement in full as the music is more than described here, but here it is...

XM and Sirius merger is great news for listeners
Sirius now has the phenomenal Absolutely Mindy on the Kids Place Live channel; Mindy is a wonderfully subversive personality who talks to kid callers between playing crossover children’s music made by adult pop and rock stars. Parents will be as amused as the kids.

As a sirius subscriber prior to the merger, I am disappointed in the changes made by KPL post merger. While I understand the need to program for more teen audiences, my four year old son is missed in the new demographic. We lost frequency of great songs from Schoolhouse Rock, Steve Songs and Laurie Berkner in exchange for Animaniacs, and others of a more mature demo. This demo is served by Radio Disney with Hannah Montana and her contemporaries.

In addition, my four year old wants music and not banter, so please focus on the music and reduce the talk. We could use less personalities and more airtime for music. At a time, when Sirius needs revenue and reduced costs, I can see one place where they could start.

Jason, Radio Disney is completely different. It's inappropriate, adult songs that have been edited or remixed for pre-teens and not something any kid could listen to.

On the other hand, XM Kids (Kids Place Live) is a wonderful, educational outlet for indie kids music and wonderful hosting.

And I really hope Robbie and Mindy, the wonderful people behind XM Kids don't read your message since you're basically asking them to be fired and lose their jobs right before Christmas. Sirius did that to enough of the XM staff already. Perhaps your employer would like to reduce costs by eliminating you? Don't ever wish that on anyone, it's not cool. At all.

Anyways, honestly, I think they could use having all three kids stations. A preschool music feed, kids place live, and radio disney. But if one should be cut, it's radio disney - you can get it anywhere, the music is terrible and inappropriate, and it's filled with ads. KPL is quality kids programming, if aimed at an older childhood and tween audience - though at 4, I think your son will start to love the stuff on KPL sooner than you'd expect!
